Dad and Mom, Ana, Venito Jr, Venito, Sonia, and Uncle Terry all visited this weekend. Stephen and Crystal Kaiser were visiting Crystal's Grandma Irlene Schauer for her 90th birthday. They had flown in from California. My Mom thought this was a great opportunity to get the family together since they were up. Dad picked Terry up in Anita, Ia and drove up.

Brent having supper
As always, he is a patient model. Even in the midst of a lovely supper of baked squash. You think I'm kidding... I'm not. Baked squash ... and they loved it! Maybe that last part I'm kidding about.
Sunset lighting the clouds in the east
The sunset lit things up beautifully. Shooting east, with the sun to my back, the clouds' bellies were lit warmly.
Spruce against a Sunset
The clouds were gorgeous and unique last night. I stepped out for 5 minutes to remember them.

Sunset in Minnesota
Thursday night, I went out with my fixed 50mm f/1.8 prime lens and took a few pictures of the sunset. The colors were vibrant. Very chilly outside. We are supposed to get a frost this weekend.

Brent
Strobist info: SB-600 at camera right on stand. Gelled with CTO 1/4. Triggered via Nikon CLS. Power set manually in Nikon D80 commander menu at 1/4. Camera set at manual. Shutter set at highest no-fp synch speed of 1/200. Adjusted aperture until high lights on him and in the sky weren't blown. Adjusted exposure somewhat by moving stand forward and backward until it was about 3' from his face. Turned SB-600 to face the sensor to me and rotated head to flash his face.
Processing: Minimal. Loaded into Light room. Dust spot correction in a few places. Tweaked exposure and contrast curve. No photoshop.
Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/13
Focal Length: 112 mm
ISO Speed: 100
We were waiting on the women folk (again! :-) ) Sabbath morning so I grabbed the camera and stand and spent 5 minutes taking a few pictures before we went to church. The sky was pitch blue with no clouds. The sun was vibrantly bright making me squint to face into it. I turned Brent with his back to the Sun and composed this shot with just a hint of cross lighting, but mainly rim lighting.

Solitude
On a hike, I backpedaled a few steps when this framing of the mountain peak appeared. Circular polarizer helped. We were on a hike up in the mountains with Carrie and John.
Colorful
We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific with Carrie and Jon. Not quite sure how the birds fit in but I took this picture which turned out colorful.
Family pic at the beach
While we were in California for my conference (AUA) we also visited Carrie and Jon Carr. One day at the beach resulted in this picture. I set the tripod up on the sand and used my SB-600 Speedlight flash on camera to lift the shadows off our faces since the sun was high overhead. Some post processing as well to compress tonal ranges.
Lilly in Morning Light
While at my parents I photographed the pink lillies with yellow ones behind. I used off camera flash on camera right.

I don't remember what she was thinking or about to say but she was being just a bit frustrated with me as I took pictures!
