Sunlight showing through the clouds

3 shot HDR shot handheld a few evenings ago in mid June. The term glory refers to sun showing through the clouds. This is faced west and I'm standing just west of our house.

One morning before work I stood atop the parking garage and facing north I took a few photos. There was quite a bit of humidity in the air that you can see in the right portion of the photo.

Dad

Dad, originally uploaded by Carl's Photography.

Dad was over this winter and patiently sat for me while I photographed him testing out variouis lighting setups. Thanks!

Fishing on a deserted reservoir in Missouri.

The photos are ordered chronologically for the story. A visual tour of the location we found. It was fun hiking up through here and seeing the old stone house. The house was deserted inside with thick layers of dust. We did hike all the way out through the forest down an old overgrown gravel lane to a gate across the driveway leading out onto an old gravel road. It had a nondescript sign saying "Do not block driveway" and that was it.

We approached the end of the reservoir and saw this rock wall.

After getting out at the dam and looking over we saw this deserted rock pit.

Walking along the dam edge we came to this old foot bridge.

Looking one way we saw the overflow from the reservoir.

Looking behind we saw the trail off of the water.

We then ascended a dilapidated rock stairs.

After reaching a landing, a new set of stairs peaked out of the forest floor.

We then reached this deserted rock house that looked circa 1900 with trees growing up out of the backyard.

A stair of rocks led away out into the forest.

Looking back at the old rock house from the forest.

Approaching the rock house (with some timber siding on the upper portion) from the high trail.

A retaining wall starting to give way.

The back yard from the opposite side of the yard.

Doug, my fishing partner and brother-in-law, standing next to one of the rock retaining walls.

As we leave the old deserted rock house, looking down on our boat beached against the dam.

A nice first bass of the day.

First bass of the day got a photo taken. Doug made a good point that if we didn't photograph it and then caught nothing else, we'd never hear the end of it from the wives! The best was yet to come however.

The big bass of the day

After cranking a crank bait over submerged timber in about 15-20 feet of water and bumping it multiple times I caught this guy! This bass darted up out of the trees, grabed it and dived for the branches. Fortunately I had selected a good rod that had fast action so the rod bowed to prevent the shock of him hitting tearing the hooks loose. I then fought to keep him out of the tree limbs. 8 lbs, and way longer than my forearm.

Panorama of the private lake I fished

This panorama shot (3 separate shots composited together) show the private lake Doug and I fished. Located somewhere in central Missouri, this was a fantastic location. The beautiful log cabin mansion over looking a beautiful bass lake. I caught the second biggest bass of my life time - 8 lbs - here on this trip.

Smiling that the fire alarm is no longer going off

We went to sleep around 10-10:30 pm. Next thing I know, I'm up standing by the door turning on the light. It takes a moment to realize why. It is 11 pm and the fire alarm is going off in our hotel. I look out the peep hole, but do not see any fire or smoke. I get dressed and am getting my laptop and camera packed up. Becky gets up and is all red and bleary eyed. I say to her as clearly as I can muster through my own bleary eyes 'Grab anything you need, we might not be able to come back for awhile'. She looks at me confused and in that moment the fire alarm goes off. False alarm. I was exhausted and fell right back asleep. So in this photo, I can finally muster a smile after a weary night.

Tomato Plants in the Window Sill

Planted on 3/9/09. Photographed on 4/9/09. At one month from planting the seed, the tomatoes are really shooting up. This particularly variety always has a sort of wilty droopy look to it. It is very delicate. Another variety is exactly the opposite and has a very sturdy look to it.

Walking on Sabbath afternoon

Jon and Carrie came over for lunch. We then went for a walk through the fields. Brent is just out of the photo on the right (although you can see his john deere green sweatshirt). Pictured is Danielle with duke by her. Then comes Natalie walking Angel. In the distance you see Carrie and Becky with Jon behind.

Danielle reading her book

I bought a socket that converts a plugin to a screw electrical bulb socket. I put one of my 100W equivalent CFL flood lights into it to use as a modeling light. I then called Danielle up to my photography room and let her read her book while I played around. I needed to shoot a close head shot because I neglected to have her brush her hair prior to coming up. Hopefully Becky won't have a fit when she gets home and see the photo!

Sabbath Sunset

Sabbath Sunset, originally uploaded by Carl's Photography.

My sister Carrie and her husband Jon came over for Sabbath lunch. At the end of the day as they sat inside talking to Becky, I stepped outside to photograph the setting sun. I grabbed my tripod, put the Sigma wide angle 10-20mm lens on. I shot this as a bracket of 3 images and processed with some mild HDR. It was a beautiful day and we had a great walk through the country.
