Mountain Hiking to Harney's Peak in Black Hills National Forest

We started hiking at Sylvan Lake in Black Hills National Forest Park. This photo is taken about hour up the trail. Already you can see a long ways into the distance. The foreground of the photo shows the dead pine trees because of the beetle infestation. It was hard to get an unobstructed view of the sky, and so I had edit out a couple of trees that blocked part of the view. I like seeing the different layers of hills in the distance.

Sunset with Two Sun Dogs (parhelia / parhelion) over the Minnesota Winter Countryside - a nice begining to the new year

Sunset tonight came with brilliant, beautiful and vibrant sun dogs (parhelia / parhelion). The fine mist of ice crystals in the air is likely the reason these were so visible. I made several photographs. This is a 3 shot merge to HDR done in Photomatix Pro and then massaged some in CS5.
