Badlands National Park - South Dakota

Badlands National Park - South Dakota
We hiked up a trail to the tip top of a peak. The view was awe inspiring. The low flat plains to the right and the rugged Badlands mountains in front.

Carl and Becky - Beartooth Highway scenics
We stopped countless times during our drive on the Beartooth highway. It only was 68 miles buy took us about 6 hours or more of driving. He we climbed down a steep ledge and cross the alpine tundraw wildflowers to as close as we dared to the drop off. The mountain gorge behind us drops away to glacier fed lakes in the distance.

Gardner Lake View from Beartooth Highway
Driving on the Beartooth highway through Custer National Forest, you come upon this view of Gardner Lake in the north edge of Wyoming. The last week of July and first week of August sees many mountain wildflowers blooming up at these high altitudes (3,223 M / 10,574 feet). The scent of the wildflowers permeated the air.

Wildflowers in front of Mount Moran and the Grand Tetons

Via Flickr:
Wildflowers in front of Mount Moran and the Grand Tetons
Leaving Jackson, Wy, we traveled up the mountains to the east. This was towards the top of path out and had a pullout for an overlook. The Grand Teton Mountain range is in the distance with Mount Moran in center with more of the Tetons to the left. Mountain wildflowers were forming a dense carpet and I sat down with the tripod to compose this scene. Brent sat by me swatting mosquitoes. This is a focused stacked image - two separate photos with one focusing on the wildflowers up close and the other focusing on the mountains in the distance. I then merged them in photoshop and blended the two for a final image with focus from front to back. Additionally, shooting at f/13 helped as well.

Waterfall in Custer National Forest on the Beartooth Highway
Descending out of the mountains on the Beartooth highway, we traveled through Custer National Forest approaching Yellowstone. We saw a location to pull off and explore a small waterfall. Waterfalls are always interesting for me.

Spring Wildflowers on the Beartooth Highway

At an elevation of 9462' feet above sea level, the air is clear and crisp and the view is simply breath taking. Even though it was August, the wildflowers were in full bloom and the air was filled with their fragarance.

Via Flickr:
We stayed at one of the cabins in Badlands National Park. We enjoyed several hiking trails. The evening orange sunset made for great lighting.
